Band Info
The popularity of Latin music in Colorado has grown to enormous heights.
This is evident by the numbers of who have taken an interest in learning to
dance to the hot spicy sounds of Salsa. Latin music can be found almost
everywhere in Colorado these days. On the radio, in the record shops, at the
night clubs, but the Band responsible for making Salsa and Latin Jazz a known
commodity here in Colorado is “Conjunto Colores.”
Conjunto Colores has opened for such bands as Tito Puente Orquestra, Sonora
Poncena, Bob James, Willie Colon, and Ruben Blades, just to name a few. They
have appeared at the following festivals, The Taste of Colorado, Cherry Creek
arts festival, Cinco de Mayo Celebrations, Ski Fiesta, Telluride jazz festival
and Denver City Park Jazz Festival. They had the honor of playing for the first
Mayors Wellington E webb’s Red Rocks jazz Festival. Sharing the stage with the
great Arturo Sandoval, Diana Schuur under the stars at Red Rocks Amphitheater.
Between 1996 and 2005 Conjunto Colores under the leadership of Francisco Mejias
have released three Cds “La Hora Llego “ Mi Planeta En otro Nivel and their
latest Cd Lo Mejor Del Conjunto Colores. Francisco Mejias is original from
Santurce Puerto Rico, He grew up in New York City. Francisco started playing
professionally at the age of fifteen. Some of the Bands he played with were
groups like Orquesta Cimarron Jojnny Bronco, Eddie Bastian, and the late great
Pete El Conde Rodriquez. Francisco moved to Denver Colorado in 1980 after being
accepted to Metropolitan Stata College.
During Francisco’s time in Denver he has played with the late great Dizzy
Gillespie, Randy Westin, Claire Fisher, Gato Barbari, Carmen Jimenez, Eddie
Santiago, and Tito Nieves. On his latest project he was proud to collaborate
with some of New York and San Francisco’s finest composers and arrangers. On
Another Level features compositions By Lino Iglesias, Van Lester, and Johnny
Ortiz. Arrangers are Willie Ruiz, John Calloway AND Wayne Wallace. This CD
promises to keep you dancing from beginning to end.
The current members of Conjunto Colores are: Francisco Mejias Leader and
Director, vocals, timbales, Paul Mcdaniels bass Andy Navalos piano, Jose Espino
congas, Ricky Sanchez bongos, Jose Alberto Caberra vocals, Alfredo Rivera
vocals, Tim Allums trumpet Tim Libby trumpet, Mark Burdett trombone Tom Ball
trombone.
